My Favourite Restaurants

Writer's picture: Laura SullivanLaura Sullivan

We often get asked to recommend restaurants in Marbella. Which is actually a hard task as there are so many to choose from. And some that are our favourites outside of summer fall down the list during the summer months.

What I've found from living here is that from June until September the restaurants get packed. So table turnaround times are fast and service can be hit and miss.

Many restaurants insist on a credit card hold of €50pp to cover cancellations made with less than 24 hours notice. If you want to avoid this book direct.

Also the online booking pages often say fully booked but I find if you call or visit they will usually find you a table.

This review is on one of our all time favourites for lunch and dinner. Right on the beach.

I'll review our other favourites separately.

Puente Romano - Chiringuito

This gets packed in the summer so make sure you book in advance. Little tip - the tables on the beach get boiling hot so ask for a table in the restaurant by the window if going for lunch. Although not directly on the beach it's cooler, quieter and you can still watch the world go by. Plus you are less likely to be a victim of pushy waiters wanting the table back.

The restaurant has a great vibe. With low key music during the day and more lively music and dance acts at night. Very child friendly for lunch as its directly on the beach.

The Menu is in English and Spanish and is varied with a good mixture of vegetarian, fish and meat. The wine and cocktail list offers lots of choice and the cava and champagnes by the glass are very good.

We always share a starter as you get lots of bread and a delicious olive spread to start and the starters are pretty big.

My food recommendations: We always share the fried calamari - simply divine. Then I always opt for the Octopus. It's listed as a starter but after all that bread and calamari it's more then enough for me.

My husband is more of a meat eater so will go for the Galician tenderloin of beef or the burger. He's the one with the sweet tooth so has probably tried every dessert on the menu. I've tucked in too and they are all good.

Dress attire for lunch varies from sophisticated beach coverups to smart/casual.

If you opt to go in the evening, get a babysitter as it's not so child friendly in the evening.

We always go for drinks first in the square in Puente Romano and then wander down to the beach.

Dress is glam so ladies dig out those dresses! I love an excuse to get dressed up so love the fact I can here without feeling out of place.

The vibe in the evening is definitely more lively than lunch time, with live music and dance acts. The dancers walk through the restaurant and perform on a stage on the beach.

Defiantly get a table on the beach in the evening as it's cooler and there is more atmosphere.

The menu is the same in the evening as for lunch but I haven't got bored of it yet.

After dinner walk back up to the main square of Puente Romano for a nightcap in the Monkey Club or if you are feeling in a party mood to dance the night away in La Suite.

An Uber/Bolt takes only 10 minutes from Casa Kibo and ranges from €13 to €18 depending on the time of day and number of passengers.
